After the resounding success of #BreadHeroes20 last year, where we celebrated all those behind the loaf – bakers, farmers, millers – due to the continuing uncertainty over Covid restrictions and safety, we have decided to launch #BreadHeroes21, but this year with a special addition.
Care and consideration for others is now, unarguably, at the heart of what it means to be a good citizen. Nothing demonstrates this more than the Bread Heroes campaign by Tiptree World Bread Awards Heroes USA supported by the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE).
This year, we are delighted to expand our Heroes search. We want to hear about not only our regional Bread Heroes, but we will also be giving out some very special awards. The winners of these awards will be drawn from all our nominees across the USA.
These include the Tiptree Outstanding Achievement Award, IBIE Innovation Award, Brook Bake Dream Team, Home Baker Bread Hero, and Sustainability Hero.
We wanted to delve into these special awards and share some more insight.

IBIE is the largest event in the Western Hemisphere. Bringing together all segments of the grain-based foods industry supply chain. Held in Las Vegas every three years, IBIE gathers the baking community to fuel the next generation of bakers, promote economic growth, educate and advance the future of baking together. Owned by the American Bakers Association (ABA), and the Bakery Equipment Manufacturers and Allieds (BEMA) and supported by the Retail Bakers of America (RBA), all proceeds from this non-profit event are invested back into the grain-based food industry.
IBIE is supporting our regional heroes, as well as the IBIE Innovation Award which will be selected from these regional heroes.
Committed to celebrating industry excellence and the very best in baking, showcasing seven million Lbs of the latest technology, and offering world-class education aimed at advancing the industry and its workforce, we are so honoured to have their support with this award.
We asked Dennis Gunnell, IBIE Chair 2022 and Bread Heroes Judge to share with us his thoughts on this special innovation award...

The IBIE Innovation award will celebrate those with the keen ability to elevate people, products, policy and processes.”
This Award will be for the nominee who has shown true innovation over the past year – innovation in its broadest sense. Whether in the field of new products, new business practice, or new activities, the Award will celebrate creativity in any aspect relating to the entire production process and delivery of bread to the consumer.
